Cross What?

If you are like most of us, you have different groups of people that you speak slightly different to. The same is true for each social platform you use. A Facebook post might be more laid back then a LinkedIn post.

Every platform has a nuance that adds to the spice of social life. People also interact with content you produce differently on each platform. For example, hashtags on Instagram/Twitter help you join conversations with veins of people, but the same results shouldn’t be expected from Facebook or LinkedIn.

The point is that you need to cross promote your content effectively to get the results you want.

1. Facebook - Keep it short!

The big advantage of Facebook is the versatility of the places you can post content. Your profile, groups, and pages. Facebook posts that have a good image and are 50 characters or less show higher engagement time and time again.

Consider using a relevant question, your link, and double checking the image that auto populates. Those simple steps can boost your engagement dramatically.

2. Twitter - Don’t Forget Your Hashtags

Even though the new threshold for tweeting is 140 characters, it doesn’t mean you should use all of them. Actually, to enter the right amount of conversations you should aim for four hashtags that aim at trending topics. Take a minute, check out what people are talking about and make your hashtags on-fleek! (Google on-fleek if you don’t know). :)

3. LinkedIn - The Unsung Hero

LinkedIn can be tricky because they give you much more space to type. 600 characters to be exact. But don’t fall into the pitfall of giving too much away upfront. Think of a playful cliffhanger that makes people want to click. Not the whole block of cheese, just a tidbit.

Post to your company page, share the content to interest specific groups, message contacts who would be interested, post to your personal page, and don’t forget to repost your content on LinkedIn Pulse or SlideShare.

Final Thought

Getting your content out on all of your social platforms is important, but if you don’t customize the content for each place you share it you are missing opportunities to enhance your engagement.

So, remember to make content that your audience wants to consume and tailor the post messaging for each network and audience. A small change can go a long way.
